The Champion League last night saw some exciting matches and the game at the Emirates was one of the most exciting. Arsenal took on Olympiakos after failing to win their first game of the group. They continued their form or the lack of it with a 3-2 loss to the visitors. Arsene Wenger’s team selection has raised some doubts and Arsenal have to quickly start getting results if they want to continue their European campaign.
Let’s take a look at the Player ratings for last night’s match.
David Ospina (1): Was not really confident from the start after replacing Cech in the starting XI. Dropped the ball at the back of his line under no pressure what so ever leaving Arsenal with no point from two games in the UCL.
Hector Bellerin (3): Was full of energy down his flank but rarely affected the play in attack. Was not easily beaten at the back.
Gabriel Paulista (2.5): Recalled into the squad, the Brazilian made some important interceptions. But was at times erratic and could have easily picked more than the yellow he got.
Laurent Koscielny (2.5): Was a solid presence at the back for Arsenal. But came off after he picked an injury.
Kieran Gibbs (2.5): Covered a lot of ground down the left to support Alexis Sanchez but often lacked the composure to find the breakthrough.
Francis Coquelin (3): Provided the stability and cover for the back four for Arsenal. They did not look balanced enough after he was taken off due to a niggle.
Santi Cazorla (2.5): Was his usual busy self in the middle of the field but lacked the penetration required by the home team.
Mesut Ozil (2): Failed to have any impact on the game after an early start. Rarely troubled the back four of the visitors.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (3): An improved performance from the youngster as he provided a presence whenever needed at both end of the field.
Alexis Sanchez (4): Looked to continue his form from the weekend and played his team mates in a number of times. Also picked up a goal and was unlucky to be on the losing side.
Theo Walcott (3): Scored the first goal for the hosts in typical fashion. Also provided the assist for Sanchez’s goal. However needs to improve his crossing which saw him waste some good chances.
Joel Campbell (2.5)
Roberto (2.5): Should have done better against Walcott’s shot but was generally confident with the ball.
Elabdellaoui (2.5): Was troubled all day by Alexis Sanchez but held his nerve. Also cleared a Santi Cazorla header off the line to deny him.
Botia (3): Was at fault as Walcott eased past him for the first goal. But was positionally aware of the dangers and defended well for the rest of the game.
Siovas (3.5): Was a strong presence in the visitors defense and produced a solid performance helping his team to hold onto the lead.
Leandro Salino (3): Oxlade-Chamberlain got the better of him at the beginning of the game but learnt his lesson quickly and was solid for the rest of the game.
Kasami (3): Was not really involved in the visitors attacking moves but was full of energy and running as he put the Arsenal midfield under tremendous pressure giving them no time on the ball.
Cambiasso (3.5): Another strong defensive performance. Was instrumental in the visitors holding their shape under pressure and frustrating the home team.
Pardo (4): Arguably the man of the match on the day. Scored the opening goal for the visitors and also set up the winner. He was unplayable on the day as he showed his pace and skill troubling the Arsenal defense.
Seba (3): A tireless performance as he gave his everything before being replaced with just over 15 minutes to go.
Fortounis (3.5): Provided the assist from a corner for his team’s second goal. Was always positive with the ball at his feet.
Ideye (2.5): Lacked any kind of spark in the final third as he led his team down at times. Was replaced at the break.
A Finnbogason (3.5): Scored the winner with a smart finish and helped his team see the game.
