The January transfer window is now officially under way and like always, big EPL clubs have been linked with star players from all over Europe.

The latest star to be linked to a host a top clubs in the Premier League is Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette. Arsenal and Chelsea are two clubs who are heavily linked to a move for the French International.

But in what comes as a blow to the clubs, Newcastle United a team in the relegation battle this season have reportedly stolen the race to sign the 24-year-old.

French Newspaper L’Equipe claims that the Magpies who are badly in need of inspiration to get their season back on track have sent two representatives to Lyon to strike a deal in this window.

Jean Michel Aulas the president of Lyon is said to have been interested with the £18.3 million from the English club. But it is reported that the player who was notified of the offer has declined a move in the middle of the season.

Lacazette felt that his chances of representing his nation in the Euro 2016 later this year will take a blow if he moves to a different league in the middle of the season. However, despite the players reluctance to accept the offer, it is understood that Newcastle will be back with an improved £21 million bid to capture their man.

The French forward is in contract with Lyon until the end of 2019 after signing a 1 year contract extension recently is said to have been hurt by the tactics of the club president Aulas. This has fuelled the rumors that are expecting Lacazette to leave the French club.

The striker was the top scorer of League 1 last season with 27 goals but has struggled this season with just 3 goals from 15 appearances.

However he will be a welcome addition to the Newcastle side that are lacking goal scorers at the moment. Cisse, Perez and Mitrovic have all failed to live up to the expectations and it is now expected that the manager is looking for a fresh face to shake things up.

It remains to be seen if Lacazette will actually move to the Premier League.
