Alvaro Morata was one of the stars of the previous season as he scored 15 times for the Old Lady en-route to the Champions League Final. He scored major goals along the way, against the likes of Real Madrid and was the de-facto target man for them as they provided their fans with grittiest of displays to reach the pinnacle of European football. As an aftermath, it was automatically assumed that he will be the heir to Carlos Tevez and will be the reliable goalscorer he was expected to be but it has all gone down the drain for the Spaniard as he has been on the fringes of the squad and has only three goals all season.
The player is hence unsettled at the club where there is competition from Dybala and Mandzukic amongst others for a starting spot to him and it has been made clear to the 21 million euro signing that he has no future at the club. He will be looking for a way out if the situation stays the same until the summer and the possible destinations include a certain Arsenal.
Morata is 23, a strong and capable forward who literally mimics Giroud in his style of play and Wenger will relish the opportunity to mould him into one of the feared strikers in Europe. The fact that he might be in contention for a spot in the Euros squad over the summer if he performs reasonably well makes it imperative for him to make the reported 20 million move to the British capital and impress Del Bosque. His contract values him at nearly 50 million pounds but Juve would be misguided to expect that kind of fee for the out-of-favour striker.
Arsenal’s cross-city rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also keen signing the forward.
