Leicester City star N’Golo Kante could be signed for just £20m, according to a report from Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old has been a revelation since his arrival from Caen for only £5.6m last summer.
He has played a key role in Leicester’s astonishing title challenge and was also named among the six candidates for the PFA Player of the Year award on Wednesday.
The highly-rated defensive midfielder even impressed on his debut for France last month, scoring in the friendly against Russia.
So there is no surprise that Kante has attracted several Premier League clubs.
He is believed to be a target of both Arsenal and Chelsea while Tottenham are also in the race. His consistency even caught the eye of Paris St-Germain as the Ligue 1 champions want to bring him back to France.
And Daily Mail claim, Kante’s suitors have been handed a huge boost with the news that his contract at the King Power Stadium contains a £20m release clause.
Kante has three years left on his current £40,000-per-week Leicester deal and despite so many interests, the Foxes are confident they can keep him at the club this summer.
But the player recently sparked some doubts regarding his long-term future, saying: “I will fight for Leicester this season and next season we never know and we will see.”
Kante has played 35 matches across all competitions for Leicester this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.
He moved to Leicester City before the start of the season and took no time to settle into the Premier League. He has been splendid in the mid-field for Claudio Ranieri’s side and has played a huge part in their race to the top of the points table this season.
He is a midfield powerhouse with relentless energy and is a manager’s dream player in any squad. He has also been able to contribute with a couple of goals for the club this season and looks like a player that will better most of the squad’s he walks into.
Chelsea are set to lose the likes of Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas this summer and with the likes of Nemanja Matic out of form, it is understandable as to why they want to get Kante to Stamford Bridge next season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are keen to include a central midfielder for next season. With Granit Xhaka also linked with a move to the Emirates, it seems unlikely that Arsene Wenger would spend big on two central midfielders.
Perhaps Wenger wants to bring in some Premier League champions after the success of goalkeeper Petr Cech and it could see the Gunners boss spending on kante rather than Xhaka.
