Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of long standing target Gonzalo Huguain. This comes after the former Napoli player and South American football expert Jose Alberti claimed that Higuain is most likely to be headed at Emirates.
Post Rafa Benitez’s exit from the club, Higuain has slated his desires to play for a Champions League side with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United being linked with a move for the striker.
Alberti highlighted Higuani’s two most likely destinations Chelsea and Arsenal by claiming that Mourinho’s presence at Chelsea would help Arsenal seal the deal for the Argentine striker.
Alberti said: “Mourinho didn’t play him (at Real), so I don’t think he would go to Chelsea.
“In my opinion, I’m 90 per cent sure he will go to Arsenal. The contract could be a minimum of €5m.
“It is not possible that a player like him wants to remain at Napoli this year after missing out on the Champions League.”
Arsenal’s interest in Higuain is set to be re-ignited after it was earlier reported that Arsene Wenger’s key target Jackson Martinez has agreed a switch to the Serie A side AC Milan.
Arsenal will have to cough-up some serious cash for Higuain, as he is valued at £42m by the Serie A side. Since his move to Napoli, Higuain has scored 52 goals in 103 games.
