Arsenal reportedly eyes Valencia left-back Jose Gaya as the long-term replacement of Nacho Monreal.
The Sun reported that Arsene Wenger is looking to keep their players on their heels and sees the highly-rated Valencia youngster as the perfect player. Monreal was severely criticised for his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City and the way he was exposed by Raheem Sterling, it is quite evident that the Gunners need a new player at the position.
On the other hand, Keiron Gibbs, whose contract expires in 18 months time, is yet to receive a contract extension which has raised speculations around his future at the Emirates.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror has reported that Gaya’s pursuit by the North London outfit is another indication that Wenger will not leave the club after this season. The French tactician, who is in his last year of the contract, is yet to pen a new deal and has been tipped by many to quit the Emirates this term.
Arsenal was linked with Bournemouth coach Eddie Howe and RB Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to replace the long-serving manager but the new outlet has claimed that Arsenal insiders firmly believe that the 67-year old is willing to stay at the club even after this season.
The report further claimed that the Gunners are confident that their squad is well-equipped which means they won’t have a busy winter transfer window. However, the future of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez is still uncertain at the club.
Both the players have only 18 months left on their current contracts but have still not signed a contract extension that has raised speculations around their future with the Gunners.
The contract rebels have been linked with several clubs in recent weeks and Arsenal is reportedly eyeing Dimitri Payet and Marco Reus as their replacement.
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger’s men will look to get their season back on track when they welcome West Brom on the Boxing Day. They have dropped to the fourth position in the Premier League after successive defeats against Everton and Manchester City and another poor result might end their title hopes.
