Arsenal failed to sign Mustafi, now make Barcelona man as top transfer target!

Arsenal were off to the worst possible start to their new Premier League campaign.

The manager was already missing some key players for the 4-3 thrashing by Liverpool and he also lost Aaron Ramsey to a hamstring injury that will put the midfielder out of action for more than a month.

This has left the manager to rue his transfer dealings (or the lack of it). However, with enough time in the transfer window still left, the Gunners will be hoping to add some quality and mettle to their squad ahead of the next season.

However, the manager is reportedly not willing to meet the asking value of top transfer target Shkodran Mustafi this summer.

It is revealed that Arsene Wenger was ready to pay £20m for the German international which is less than his valuation by the La Liga outfit.

Jonas Hector is valued t around £28m and it is revealed that Valencia will not let go of the player unless a bid in excess of £25m is met.

However, it is now reported that Arsene Wenger is not ready to meet that price and may be out of the race to sign the German.

This has seen the Gunners linked with a move to Barcelona outcast Jeremy Mathieu.

Arsene Wenger has the likes of Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista and Laurent Koscielny unfit for the next weekend and wants to add depth and options to his center back position in the squad.

And it is now understood that Mathieu is reportedly recognized as the man who can slot into the Arsenal defense this season and that he is now at the top of the transfer wish-list for Arsene Wenger.

The 32-year old French star was a part of Barcelona’s victory over Sevilla at the weekend but picked up a slight niggle that will keep him out for a while.

But Wenger is confident that Mathieu can stay injury free at the Emirates according to reports. It is revealed that Wenger may make a move for the experienced defender in the coming days.

Barcelona are reportedly asking for a price around £10.4m for their defender and it is believed that Wenger is happy to pay up for the 32-year old.

But do you think Mathieu is the man for Wenger this summer?
