Arsenal are currently leading the race to sign highly rated Monaco attacker Kylian Mbappe.
The 17-year-old youngster has been attracting interest from a hand full of top clubs all over Europe including Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool.
But now according to French news outlet L’Equipe, the Gunners have suddenly leaped ahead of a host of European giants in the race for the French side’s 17-year-old forward.
However, a confirm deal is yet to be reached, it is expected that Mbappe will be with his current club Monaco until the end of this season. The youngster hasn’t even agree a fresh contract with Monaco who now sit 2nd in the Ligue 1, a staggering 21 points behind Paris Saint-Germain.
The league standing of Monaco could pave the way for Arsenal, or indeed any other team, who are battling neck to neck to sign the promising talent if the club eventually could not find an agreement over a contract extension quickly.
Monaco who will play against surprise package Angers in their next league fixture, will try their best to hold onto the young forward as they are desperate to throw a counter charge to PSG’s domination in French football.
After losing young talent Anthony Martial to EPL giants Manchester United last summer and playmaker Bernardo Silva also attracting huge interest from a few European clubs, Leonardo Jardim’s side will now have to hold on to their key members if they want to stay alive in the title chase next season.
However 17-year-old Mbappe is said to prefer a move to Arsenal and it looks like only a matter of time before Arsene Wenger bring in the highly coveted youngster who has played 3 matches for Monaco this season with two assists.
Arsene Wenger himself has said earlier that they were keeping tabs on Martial’s progress at Monaco and were actually considering a move only for Manchester United to jump in and hijack the striker.
However, after missing out on the actual Anthony Martial, it now looks Arsenal manager may be on the verge of bringing in the next best thing as reports suggest Arsenal scout, Giles Grimandi, is already in Monaco to discuss with the club having the sole purpose of completing a transfer for this rising star.
A versatile forward who can play up front or on the wing, Mbappe broke into the Monaco first team only this season and after a series of impressive performances, a number of top clubs took interest in the teen sensation.
