Arsenal Injruy Update: Manager Provides Mixed-Injury Update on 6 First Team Players

Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger will be happy with his team’s performance at the weekend in their victory over Bournemouth and will know that he will have to turn his attention to the League Cup game against Southampton at the Emirates on Wednesday.

However, like every year, the Gunners are prone to injuries in the middle of the season and are suffering with the same problem this campaign as well with as many as six first team players absent from the squad at the moment.

The manager was evidently frustrated but managed to provide an update on all the injuries. Here is a roundup of all such injury updates:

Theo Walcott:

The English winger was subbed off early in the game at the weekend after an injury to his leg but he is not expected to miss too many games for the Gunners as the manager revealed that he will shrug off the niggle by the end of the week.

Mathieu Debuchy:

The French defender started the game at the weekend for the Gunners but he also left the pitch early on the night complaining of a hamstring injury. The manager revealed that it is an injury that might keep him out of the game for a long time and that they are waiting on the results of a scan that was to be done on Tuesday, before taking the next step.

Olivier Giroud:

Having replaced the injured Walcott on the pitch against the Cherries, Giroud, who had a decent outing, also hobbled off the field on the night pulling up his hamstring. However, Wenger revealed that it is nothing serious and that they got lucky regarding Giroud who might even be ready for the game at the weekend.

Lucas Perez:

The Spanish striker is back in full training earlier this week shrugging off his ankle injury and is set to provide Arsenal with a timely injury boost ahead of the festive schedule. The summer buy has not played for the club since the victory in the last round of the League Cup and according to reports, he is all ready to start for the Gunners on the night against Southampton. It will come as a huge boost for Wenger who will not be risking Giroud until he is completely fit.

Hector Bellerin:

The Spanish full-back is one of the most important players for the Gunners and Wenger will need him back in action as soon as possible. However, Bellerin today revealed that he is doing really well in his fight back from injury and that he may be back in action in the upcoming weeks. Speaking to the media recently, the Spaniard revealed that he is hoping to be back in action this week.

It’s going better than expected because it’s a pretty hard injury but, at the moment, it’s recovering really well,’ said Bellerin.

‘I hope to be running by the end of this week or the beginning of next week and then we’ll just take it from there,’ he added.

Santi Cazorla:

The Spanish midfielder picked up a small niggle before the international break and was expected to be back in action after the domestic league returned. However, Cazorla, who later revealed he picked up an Achilles injury is yet to be back in training. Wenger revealed that he is not too far away from training but Cazorla is yet to appear in the training sessions at the Emirates and is now where close to the first team. His recovery has not gone to plan and the Gunners will have to make do without the star midfielder for at least another month.
