Arsenal Join Chelsea and Manchester United In Race For Roma Star This January

After losing some ground in the points table early this month, Arsenal were back to winning ways with a commanding performance at the Liberty Stadium this weekend.

The manager will be pleased by his team’s performance in that game and will hope that they can keep it up but he will also have an eye on trying to improve his squad this transfer window and the next.

This has seen him linked with a number of stars recently and one such player who Wenger is ready to turn to is AS Roma defender Kosatas Manolas.

A summer target for the Gunners, Manolas, is in sublime form for the Italian outfit, helping them to the second place in the points table.

The manager was desperate for the Greece international in the summer but failed to land him. So he decided to spend on German international Shkodran Mustafi.

Mustafi has cemented a place in the starting XI for Arsenal alongside Laurent Koscielny leaving Per Mertesacker on the bench when fit.

Mertesacker is currently the club captain and is not expected to leave anytime soon but Wenger is hoping add another defender to his lineup and is ready to go head to head with Manchester United and Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho, who is also desperate for a center back this January, has been looking at Benfica’s Victor Lindelof. But that move has not yet transpired and this might see the manager look at Manolas as an alternative.

Antonio Conte was also linked with Manolas in the summer and though he spent on David Luiz, he is desperate for another defender. He has been linked with a few stars in Europe and Manolas is one of them.

But Arsenal are now ready to take the first step for their star and are readying a bid for Manolas. The 25-year old has been in sublime form and is expected to move to the Emirates as a replacement for Mertesacker whose deal with the Gunners ends at the end of the current season.

It is understood that Manolas, who is contracted with Roma till 2019, will cost close to £47m, making him the third most expensive center back but Wenger is not budging and is ready to meet his price tag.

The Arsenal manager has been visibly desperate for defensive additions but if he can land Mustafi and Manolas in back to back transfer windows, it will be a coup that can help them take the next step.

Do you think Wenger needs to spend on Manolas?
