Yet another sensational news coming from German outlet TZ as they claim Liverpool’s potential summer move to reunite Mario Gotze with his former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp could be in jeopardy.
Arsenal, according to the latest report, are all set to jump into the race to hijack Gotze and are ready to tramp any offer Liverpool might place for the 23-year-old World Cup winner. Gotze had to endure a frustrating campaign so far, battling against injury while only playing 12 matches for the Bundesliga giants.
The Gunners have emerged as the latest club to throw their hat into the ring, as Arsene Wenger thinks Gotze is capable of filling several roles in his squad that are already being underperformed by the likes of Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud and Wenger feels he misses a killer striker in the squad. Historically also, the Frenchman has looked to sign players who are out of favour at big clubs.
Struggling for game-time in Bayern, Gotze is far too good to be sitting on the bench at the Allianz Arena. Arsenal despite having a wealth of attacking midfield options, look to Gotze as he can play up front or on the wing as a wide midfielder, just like Aaron Ramsey has been recently. With Tomas Rosicky out of favour and Joel Campbell’s future in doubt, there could well be space for another attacking midfielder next season.
The German creative midfielder is worth every penny and if you are thinking about putting him alongside compatriot Ozil and Sanchez then it’s quite clear Arsenal would line up with a formidable attacking set-up. Wenger knows Gotze’s qualities and has already said he will sign players based on ability, not their position.
It appeared more potentially bad news for the German midfielder on the homefront anyway, with TZ also suggesting incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t think the Gotze as part of his plans when he takes over the reins for the outgoing Pep Guardiola.
According to the claims, Arsenal are looking to exploit Bayern’s current position and will make an attempt to drive down Gotze’s transfer fee before the deadline day this summer.
It’s really hard to say right now which direction Gotze’s career is heading, but at only 23, with a World Cup winning goal to his credit, and enough talent to attract the interest of one of the world’s top clubs, in Bayern it seems he would be worth a chance. Whether he is worth the reported £31 million pounds needed to grab that chance is up to his wealthy suitors to decide this summer.
