Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin ruled out of the north London derby.

Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has been ruled out from the Wednesday’s League Cup clash against Tottenham with a knee injury.

The French international had to leave the pitch at half-time during Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to defending premier champion Chelsea on last Saturday. He will undergo a further medical check up this week.

The good news for the Gunners fans is that Per Mertesacker, however, is fully fit and expected to start on the pitch for the north London derby at White Hart Lane after recovering from illness, coach Arsene Wenger confirmed.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, the Frenchman said: “Francis Coquelin will be out and we have no major problems for anybody else. It should be a similar squad.

His knee is swollen and he is being assessed, but we hope it is just a short-term problem.”

Mertesacker will be back in action after missing four consecutive matches for illness.
