According to reports in France, Arsenal are going to step up their interest in signing AS Monaco defender Marcel Tisserand. The Gunners are reportedly ready to make an official bid for the 23-year old.
Earlier reports confirmed that the club have made contact with player’s agent as Arsenal are in need to sign a new defender after their central defenders Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista haave suffered long-term injuries.
The pairing of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding have brought a lot of criticism on Wenger as the young defenders failed miserably. The arrival of Laurent Koscielny meant the Gunners were able to impress in defense in their second game against Leicester City.
But Wenger is keen to sign a new central defender to pair with Koscielny as they are linked with the likes Shkodran Mustafi, Jose Gimenez and Florentina’s Davide Astori to name a few.
Considering the inflated prices of both Mustafi and Gimenez, Gunners are forced to look at other options available in the market and have reportedly upped their interest in the Monaco defender.
The 23-year old provides more options to Wenger as he can play both as a central defender as well as a right-back. He could provide much-needed depth to Arsenal defense which could play a vital part in the long season ahead.
The Congo international have also drawn interest from French club, St Etienne, as Gunners need to make a move faster than their rivals to sign the talented versatile defender.
