It seems that Arsenal’s defensive superstar Calum Chambers could possibly be on the verge of a return to Southampton on loan until the end of the current campaign, once the transfer window opens in the new year. The Sun reports that Arsene Wenger wants the youngster to return to his former club for regular footballing action, which he has not been getting often at the Emirates in recent times, due to the number of players challenging for a limited number of places in the starting eleven. The England international joined the north London side in 2014 and has just a total of 29 games with 1 goal to his name so far.
Further, with the likes of Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy above him in the pecking order at the club, it surely reduces his chances of playing regular football for the French manager’s side and might move away from north London.
The report further added that the Saints will look to extend the six-month deal as per their needs, if the 20 year old superstar can impress during the course of his initial spell back at the St. Marys’.
Also, apart from Ronald Koeman’s side, Everton are also keeping tabs on the defender, who is being considered as a potential replacement for John Stones, who is currently a primary target for Premier League champions, Chelsea.
If Wenger does feel that he does not really need the Englishman’s services, he could be all set to leave the club on a temporary basis, till he gains some much needed experience, making him an asset for the future.
