As per the latest reports, Arsenal have made contact with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender and are lining up a summer bid to secure his transfer. It is a well known fact that Arsenal are in the market to add at least one quality defensive midfielder.

The emergence of Francis Coquelin has been one of the positive things to have happened to the Gunners in 2015. Wenger had earlier insisted that he would try to buy another defensive midfielder despite Coquelin’s form.

Sven Bender has been under Arsenal radar for the past two seasons, but with Dortmund failing to qualify for Champions League next season Bender might be tempted to move away from Signal Iduna Park.

Arsenal are considered favorites to sign the player despite interest from fellow Premier League teams Southampton and Liverpool. The 26-year old is currently earning a €58,000 per week wage and a move to Arsenal would definitely see a rise in salary, claims Bild.

Gunners have made Morgan Schneiderlin their primary target but with Manchester United favorites to sign Scheiderlin, Arsene Wenger is looking for other options available in the market. Wenger has shown interest in the likes of Kondogbia (AS Monaco) and Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen) as he desperately needs a defensive midfielder this summer.
