Arsenal’s Season Just Got Worse As Star Player Suffer Hamstring Injury

Arsenal’s misery has been compounded after Arsene Wenger confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a hamstring injury during a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.

The England international, who was not a part of the starting eleven, replaced Alex Iwobi in the second half but lasted only 13 minutes before being withdrawn. The winger was replaced by Mohamed Elneny as the injury-prone player showed his frustration while coming off the field by holding his head in his hands and throwing his shirt off in anger.

Speaking after the match, Wenger said: “He is injured, it’s a muscular problem. It looks like a hamstring.”

If the hamstring injury is confirmed, then it will be the fifth muscular injury he has suffered since the start of 2015. During that period, the former Southampton star has been forced to miss 38 games.

The injury will be a huge blow for the Gunners who are struggling to keep their title challenge on track. The defeat at the Etihad was second inside a week and they are now nine points adrift of table-toppers Chelsea.

The North London outfit is already missing services of Santi Cazorla and Shkodran Mustafi. Cazorla has been ruled out for three months while Mustafi is expected to miss the games against West Brom (December 26) and Crystal Palace (January 1) due to a hamstring injury.

The recent chain of events has brought back the memories of past seasons where the Gunners have failed to capitalise on the good start to the season due to injuries and inconsistency. Just about a week ago, Arsene Wenger’s men were leading the table on goal difference and now they have dropped to fourth, struggling to keep their title hopes alive.

They went into the break at the Etihad with one goal lead before producing one of their worst performance of the season in the second half to lose the match. This was the second time in space of four days that the Gunners have lost after taking the lead. Well, they will be looking to bounce back when they welcome West Brom on the boxing day.
