Arsene Wenger has been in a buoyant spirit lately after his side has been winning games with ease and scoring goals for fun. Arsenal have now won 7 league games on the bounce and have managed to win 15 of their last 17 games in all competitions.
Much of their recent glorious run has been down to two men, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud. Arsene Wenger has been heaping the praises on his two attackers and he even admitted that Sanchez and Giroud’s partnership reminds him of his two great players Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.
Wenger spoke bullishly after Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Liverpool. He even went to the extent of comparing his current duo of Alexis Sanchez & Olivier Giroud to the great partnership of Thierry Henry & Dennis Bergkamp.
The Arsenal manager compared his current forwards to the legendary partnership of Henry & Bergkamp and claimed that, his current strikers (Sanchez & Giroud) are the closest thing Arsenal have managed to produce in a long time which can replicate the form and partnership which Henry & Bergkamp once showed at Emirates.
If we go by the stats, Wenger’s comments are not too over the board as Giroud and Sanchez have scored 38 goals together in all competitions and are well on course to hit the 50-goal mark from now and till the end of this season. Wenger spoke in the same context and said:
“You smell that we can score goals. If you look at the number of goals we’ve scored now – 62 from 31 league games – that’s quite good.
“We last had two players scoring 25 a season was with Bergkamp and Henry. That’s a long time ago. But they’re not bad names!
“Giroud has surprised a lot of people. It shows that we missed him when he was out for four months.”
