Aston Villa are set to make their second signing in this summer’s transfer window after having agreed a £9m deal for highly rated Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye according to Sky Sports. The Senegalese midfielder has played close to 130 games in the French Ligue 1 with Lille and was heavily linked with a move to the likes of Marseille, West Ham and Crystal Palace. He was even being considered by Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as a potential replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin who is the subject of strong interest from Manchester United.
However, it seems now that Gueye could make the move to the Birmingham based club within the next 24 hours as only personal terms and a medical remain to be concluded. Aston Villa remain confident that personal terms will be agreed soon enough as they prepare to build a team capable of doing better than being a part of a relegation scrap as had been the case the past season. Gueye would be a perfect addition for such motives as he could potentially turn into one of the bargain buys of the window.
A powerful, agile midfielder who is also a clever footballer and is fairly impressive with the ball at his feet, Gueye would join Micah Richards at the midlands club, having played in the UEFA Europa League last season. With Villa being continually linked to more players like Swedish U-21 left back Ludwig Augustinsson, Ajax left back Nicolai Boilesen and Groningen ace Tjaronn Chery, the club could be set to make more forays into the market sooner rather than later.
