The second week of the Barclays Premier League has some interesting fixtures for the big teams. After grabbing all 3 points from the Spurs at the Old Trafford last week, Manchester United will travel to Aston Villa for another intriguing fixture. In this article, we will preview the match between Manchester United and Aston Villa along with the team news for both the teams.
Tim Sherwood would have been more than satisfied with the team’s performance in the previous game against newly promoted Bournemouth. He should try and build on the confidence that game gave to the squad. They will welcome the Red Devils to the Villa Park in a game that is not as easy to predict. The beginning of the season can easily go either way and Villa are very much within reach of an upset in the early days of the league.
The Match will be played at the Villa park on the 14th of August 9:45 pm BST (15th August, 12:15 am IST).
The biggest news for this game would be the absence of David de Gea from the squad. As per reports, the coach and the player have agreed that he will sit out of the clash and this has given strength to the rumors about his move to Real Madrid. Apart from De Gea, Phil Jones may not play at the Villa Park due to an illness. Schweinsteiger also said in an interview that he was close to reaching full fitness levels.
For Tim Sherwood, Charles Gil, Jack Grealish and Jores Okore will miss the game due to injury. But most of the squad for the first game should remain and the manager will want his players to repeat the same performance and hope for a victory against Manchester United.
For the Manchester United game, Rudy Gestede may not be as effective as he was against Bournemouth. He thrived at the tip of the attack for Villa as he won almost everything that was thrown at him in the air in the short time he was used as a substitute. Against the likes of Blind and Smalling, Gestede will have a tougher time but his superior ariel ability may just pose problems to the Manchester United defense.
Agbanlahor will also be a handful and the likes of Michael Carrick and Schneiderlin should make sure that he does not get too much space to run into. However, Villa showed significant weakness at the flanks and the full back of Manchester United can have a lot of joy throughout the day from the sides of the defense.
Matteo Darmian looked impressive on his debut and can link well with the likes of Mata. Shaw on the other flank also showed what he could do and can pose a threat to the Villa defense all throughout the game. The likes of Depay and Rooney however should add more creativity to the attack that needs a bit of spark in front of the goal.
The matches against Manchester United for Aston Villa have not given happy memories for the fans. They will want their team to end the two decade long run without a victory and give the club a great start to the season.
Manchester United XI: Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Schneiderlin, Carrick; Mata, Depay, Young; Rooney
Aston Villa XI: Guzan, Bacuna, Richards, Clark, Amavi; Veretour, Westwood, Gueye; Agbonlahor, Ayew, Sinclair
Prediction: Expect Manchester United to turn on the game, but Villa away is always a difficult opposition. Expect a 1-1 draw.
