In a bid to start preparing its long-awaited residential football school, the Atletico De Kolkata top brass is all set to bring the directors of their mother club academy, Atletico De Madrid who are scheduled to arrive in Kolkata in the next week to visit the proposed land, chosen by Atletico De Kolkata. The ATK chief executive, commenting on the issue, said on Wednesday, “The academy directors from our Madrid club academy are expected to arrive in Kolkata by the next week and they will visit the land we have planned so far to construct our residential football school near Netaji International airport. And among the directors there will also be an experienced coach from the academy who will be interacting with our youth development coaches.”
However, the chief coach of ATK youth development programme Manojit Das, the former footballer and coach seems little bit of frustrated with the delay of franchise team’s youth development programme as despite having spotted 200 footballers from under-12 and 13 age group, the club has stopped its final selection process where 30 boys will be scouted for the academy finally.
Even the ATK has released all its footballers of the third division team it took part in the Kolkata third division league last season. But before the start of the third division league ATK officials promised that the boys will be retained and potential footballers from that team will be given the opportunity to train with the senior squad. Although, the club’s chief executive Subrata Talukdar quipped, “We will again build up the team before the third division league this season and this time, potential footballers from this side will also be spotted.”
