Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seems really excited for a reunion with former manager Jurgen Klopp when the Borrusia Dortmund face Liverpool on Thursday night.
Liverpool will make a trip to Dortmund in the last eight of the Europa League, and the highly-rated Gabon star is waiting for the opportunity to come face to face with Klopp. He insisted that he owes a lot to his old boss after adjusting his life under his tutelage while the pair worked together at Dortmund, and even hinted that he will want to speak with him when they meet.
The prolific striker has long been chased by Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United while Arsene Wenger being most favourite to secure his services. Liverpool started to show their interest on the Dortmund attacker since Klopp’s arrival as the two had a good relationship when they worked together.
According to The Mail, he said: “It is great for us to have this game. We can show Klopp we have worked hard to get back to where we were and that we have progression. It will be a very difficult game, for sure, but we want to show Klopp that we are working very hard.
“I owe him a lot. It was great to work with him and he taught me many things. If I play like this as a striker now, it is because of him.”
“I do not know what I will say when I see him again. All I know is that it will start with hello! We will speak a little bit in German, maybe. We will see what happens.”
Aubameyang struck his 23rd Bundesliga goal of the season in a 3-2 victory over Werder Bremen on Saturday and now sits on one less that Robert Lewandowski’s best total when he was a Dortmund player. The two are now separated by only two goals at the top of the goal-scoring charts for the season.
On his goals, he said: “It is a big target. Of course, it is very hard to follow Lewandowski. But it is a very good target to have and I am really happy to have scored again. I know that this competition has not finished. The battle will be on until the end and we will see who will be the champion!”
Klopp brought in the Gabon intentional in 2013 during his time at Borussia Dortmund from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne. Since then Aubameyang’s career has gone from strength to strength, that has made him a major target for a host of Premier League clubs this summer.
