In what can be called as one of the most sensational transfer rumour of this summer, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid reportedly offered bitter rivals Real Madrid a whopping £60 million for their striker Alvaro Morata.
According to reports in Spanish news outlet AS, the Champions League winners rejected the offer right away with a message that stated they would not be selling any of their players to Atletico.
Morata returned to the Bernabeu from Juventus this summer after the Spanish giants activated nearly £30 million buy-back clause in his contract.
Morata became one of the hottest properties of the transfer window earlier in the summer when it emerged that Los Blancos were ready to resign him from Juventus only to automatically sell him to the Premier League for a profit.
The Spain international was heavily linked with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal or Chelsea. But the move did not materialise due to the huge £60 million price-tag Real had slapped on the 23-year old.
However, the price did not stop Atleti boss Diego Simeone from making an offer and the club made an official offer only to face rejection.
The Argentine wanted to bolster his forward line and had to finally settle for Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro.
Meanwhile, last season’s Champions League runners-up have started their new season disastrously. They have drawn their opening two matches against Alaves and Leganes. On the other hand Real Madrid have won their opening two matches with Morata playing an important role in both the matches.
