Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is right now under pressure to reject offers from both the Manchester clubs and the reason is his wife!
The Spanish boss is being highly linked with Manchester United and Manchester City for the last two months after he failed to commit himself to the German giants beyond next summer. But it is reported that Guardiola’s wife Cristina Serra, is more than happy with the lifestyle in Munich and is in no hurry to leave German city for a move to Manchester.
This could disappoint both the fans of Manchester who are still hoping the 44-year-old Spaniard will manage at Old Trafford or the Etihad Stadium.
According to reports, Serra holds a big influence on where Guardiola works prioritising their family life, including children Maria, Marius and Valentina. Some say it was Guardiola’s wife who persuaded him to take a year-long sabbatical after leaving Barcelona when the 2011-12 season ended. Guardiola and his family eventually spent some time in America before the Spaniard agreed to manage Bayern Munich the following year.
Bayern hierarchy is once again hopeful Guardiola will stay with them for at least one more season and the Spaniard’s wife could be used to persuade him as Serra has loved the life in Munich and would be very much happy to extend the stay.
Bayern are reportedly requesting the former Barcelona boss to decide over a contract extension during the Bundesliga winter break, which starts next week.
But the fact is that Guardiola doesn’t want to disclose his future until the New Year when he will be visiting the United Arab Emirates, close to City’s owners in Abu Dhabi.
Bayern Munich have organised a training camp in Dubai and are scheduled to reach there on 6th January.
German media is saying that the Bavarians will also delay an official announcement until Guardiola and his team are out of the country, especially if it’s turn out to be a bad news.
If he decides to move on, the German giants are keen to appoint another coach with a pedigree of winning the Champions League and former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti being a potential replacement.
Bayern’s trip to Hannover is on Saturday for their last match before the winter break starts and Guardiola is expected to fly back to his home in Barcelona after the match to spend Christmas with his family.
One more year in Germany would mean his contract ending at the same time as Louis van Gaal’s three-year deal at Old Trafford runs out. The question is that will United wait that long!
