Gareth Bale was the topic of discussion as Real Madrid got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory against Espanyol, despite ending the game with 10 men. Real Madrid won their first game of 2015 after suffering defeats to AC Milan, Valencia and Atletico Madrid in earlier matches.
Real Madrid fans and Cristiano Ronaldo were livid with Gareth Bale when he did not pass the ball to a free Ronaldo in the second half. Cristiano’s reaction was an obvious sign of anguish and anger. This caught on with the crowd present inside Bernabeu as they started to jeer and boo Gareth Bale.
World Cup Superstar James Rodriguez opened the scoring on the night for Los Blancos as he was beautifully set up by Cristiano Ronaldo on 12 minute mark. Gareth Bale then doubled Madrid’s lead with a pin point free kick scored.
Real Madrid lost Fabio Coentrao when the Portuguese defender made a rash tackle on Espanyol’s Jose Elberto Canas. Nacho was then sent on for Alvaro Arbaloa and he completed the scoring on the night for Real Madrid as they sealed a 3-0 victory and moved four points clear of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who are set to battle tonight in a mouth-watering game.
Despite the win, talking point from the night will be the continuous boos and jeers for Gareth Bale for not passing the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo. Gareth Bale was heavily criticised for being too selfish in Madrid’s defeat against Valencia. It all got worse in this game as the Welshman was in for another tough night by his own team-mates and players.
After the game Carlo Ancelotti was asked to respond to the probable act of selfishness displayed by Gareth Bale. Ancelotti responded by saying:
“Bale has played a very, very good game. He’s played with intensity and he’s scored,’ Ancelotti said.
‘It could be that at that moment the fans have asked for a pass to Cristiano which hasn’t happened and like all strikers who are in front of goal he tried to score.’
Ancelotti added: ‘Altruism is a very important component of the team this season.
“If there is any play which seems selfish we’ll clearly fix it. We have fans who demand a lot. Bale is a fundamental player like Cristiano and for that the fans demand much more than of others.’
After tonight’s fiasco it would be interesting to see the reaction of Real Madrid fans against Bale when they play next at Bernabeu.
