Before the start of the new season this weekend we take a look at Sportzwiki’s 2014/15 predictions. Manchester City won the title last season after a dramatic end to the season, but it was Liverpool who were the surprise package as they played beautiful football throughout the season. Chelsea look favourites after gameweek 30 to win the title, but the lack of a top striker cost them the title. Manchester United underperformed under David Moyes and will be looking to get things right under new manager Louis Van Gaal.
City have added Fernando Reges and Eliaquim Mangala to their already star studded squad. In Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo they have got four quality strikers, something other Premier league clubs don’t have. In the midfield they have Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, David Silva, Samir Nasri, James Milner and Jesus Navas. We totally expect them to win the Premier league title once again if they can keep their star striker Sergio Aguero fit for most of the season.
Liverpool ended up scoring 101 goals last season, just one less than Manchester City, but a lot has changed since then as they have sold their star striker to Barcelona. With Suarez and the eight other additions Liverpool could have been a strong favourites to lift the title next season, but we feel they’ll fall short once again. They have added quality attackers in their squad, Lazar Markovic, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert are all exciting signings and will add much needed squad depth. They have possibly also sorted their defensive problems and Rodgers can trust his new defenders Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo. Emre Can will provide strength and creativity to the central midfield. We doubt under Rodgers Liverpool will repeat what Spurs did last season and we fully expect them to be a force once again. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Coutinho have been in excellent form throughout pre-season. Daniel Sturridge will lead the Reds attack this season and Steven Gerrard will certainly hope to lift the Premier league title next season.
Arsenal have signed Mathieu Debuchy, Alexis Sanchez and Calum Chambers. Arsenal have lacked a versatile forward in their team, the likes of Giroud and Podolski haven’t performed in big games yet and the signing of Sanchez is just what they needed. If they can keep the likes of Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fit they can hope to push for the Premier league title. Arsene Wenger can only hope his team don’t suffer big defeats in the league against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea again this season. Arsenal surely have a team that can make supporters excited and we think they will finish third this season.
Chelsea have signed Filipe Luis, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa. The likes of Thibaut Courtois and Kurt Zouma have also returned back from loan. Chelsea have probably one of the strongest midfield and defense in the league, but we feel they still need one more quality striker. There is no one they can trust to score goals if Diego Costa is injured and the chances of Fernando Torres returning back to form are very slim. Jose Mourinho was heavily criticized last season for played defensive football and “parking the bus” against big teams, but the man knows how to get results and thats what matters. If Chelsea can keep Costa fit for the entire season then they can hope for good things at Stamford bridge.
