The Barclays Premier League is heading into its festive schedule this December and this week’s matches were very important for all sides for building up the momentum going into that fixture list. Chelsea, United and Liverpool dropped points while City, Arsenal and Leicester City took all three points and are at the top of the table.
There were a number of superb performances by players from all over the field. From last minute goals to last-ditch challenges, this week of the Premier League saw everything and the excitement will only get better going into the busy festive season. This week was just the beginning of the most exciting period in the Premier League.
Here is the team of the week for Match Day 16 of the Barclays Premier League:
Jack Butland (Stoke City):
The Hammers toiled away against Stoke but were not able to put even a single goal past Butland who made 9 saves on the night and deservedly kept a clean sheet.
Allan Nyom (Watford):
The Watford left back was instrumental in his side’s clean sheet against Sunderland. He also burst forward to provide the cross for Ighalo’s 10th goal of the season.
Simon Francis (AFC Bournemouth):
Covering for injuries, Francis was played as a centre back against Manchester United and he excelled in his new position frustrating United for most parts of the game.
Robert Huth (Leicester City):
The central defender in a team that is scoring for fun is often underrated. The same happens to Huth, who is ever reliable at the back for Claudio Ranieri’ side.
Chris Brunt (West Bromwich Albion):
Tony Pulis’ side scored two goals from two set pieces in the game against Liverpool. Brunt who was superb defensively was the provider of both the dead balls.
Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal):
Returning from injury, Ramsey has shown some class in the Arsenal midfield. He scored a goal against Villa and was superb in the middle of the field all day long.
Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace):
Cabaye produced a master class against the Saints in the middle of the park this weekend. He surged forward a numerous number of times and also scored the winner for his side.
Harry Arter (AFC Bournemouth):
The Cherries midfielder was superb in the game against United as he controlled the midfield area with ease and created plenty of half chances for his team.
Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City):
One-half of the deadly duo for the Foxes, Mahrez was once again unplayable on the flank as he bagged a goal and as assist in their 2-1 victory against Chelsea.
Olivier Giroud (Arsenal):
Olivier Giroud scored in his 5th consecutive appearance for Arsenal in all competitions. His strength and movement were too much to handle for Remi Garde’s side.
Josh King (AFC Bournemouth):
The ex-Manchester United attacker was at his best against his old club as he tormented them every chance he got and scored the winning goal that capped off one of the greatest weeks in Bournemouth history.
