Barnsley youngster Mason Holgate is all set to join Premier League giants Manchester United this summer, according to their manager Lee Johnson. Johnson admitted that the Manchester United are interested in the 18-year-old defender and if they pursue the deal will happen eventually.

Lee Johnson:“There’s been a lot of interest in Mason and, at this stage it looks like we’re destined to lose him but you never know what’s going to happen, the player can always change his mind.

“It’s great for the lad to be training with Manchester United, it’s a fantastic opportunity but of course I want him to stay and really feel as though he could benefit from a full season in our first team.”

Though Johnson believes that Holgate will eventually leave the club, he remains hopeful that the defender might think otherwise and stay at the club.

Holgate had a fabtastic season with the club last season and played 22 games for Barnsley.

Several other clubs like Aston Villa and Arsenal are also interested in signing the youngster, but Manchester United remain favourites. The Red Devils are short of quality center backs. They had bought youngsters like Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw last summer and promoted Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair from their youth system.

The inclusion of Mason Holgate will definitely bolster their senior as well as the youth squads.
