According German newspaper Bild, Bayern Munich Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has apparently had discussions with Manchester United’s Ed Woodward over the availability of their talismanic midfielder Angel Di Maria. According the newspaper’s chief reproter Christian Falk, the Bundesliga champions are ready to offer €50m for the Argentine attacker. Manchester United had roped in Di Maria from Real Madrid last season for a British transfer record fee of £59.7m for five years.
Christian Falk’s tweet read:
Though the news has been reproted by the German media it is yet to confirmed by either of the clubs. Angel Di Maria had an average outing with the English outfit last season. After a decent start at Old Trafford, he slowly faded away from glory and was plagued with several injuries. In the second half of the season his form took a major dip and he was demoted to the reserve bench as Juan Mata, Marouanne Fellaini and Ander Herrera took the center stage in the team’s midfield.
Angel Di Maria returned to form somewhat in the Argentina jersey. He has been a key member of the Albicelestes in the Copa America 2015. He scored a brace in his team’s 6-1 drubbing of Paraguay in the semi-final.
A decision is yet to be taken and it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils actually sells their star midfielder for a much lesser price than what they had spent a season back to acquire him. Manchester United are also keen on signing Bayern’s midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
