Turkish giants Besiktas are keen on roping in Manchester United’s Dutch striker Robin van Persie. According to media reports, the Turkish club’s director, Yalcin Kaya Yilmaz recently spoke about the side’s interest in signing the 31-year-old striker and strengthen their squad. The signing might also benefit them from a business perspective. He was quoted: “If the conditions are right and if he also wants to come we are willing to make an offer even if it would push us to the limit financially.
“He would really get the crowd going at the Arena and sales from season tickets and merchandise alone would be able to make back our investment.”
Robin van Persie has entered the final year of his contract with Manchester United. He had joined the club in 2012 from Arsenal. After an impressive debut season, the veteran striker has failed to live up to the expectations, especially the last season. He remained injured for the majority of the season and did not play well up front. The fans, in particular, were not happy with his performance. As the season concluded, the media had speculated that he might move out of the club this summer. He was linked with a number of clubs which include Serie A sides like AS Roma and Lazio and Juventus.
Besiktas finished third in the Turkish league last season. They are extremely eager to bag van Persie’s signing and bring him home. Though, the striker’s wage demand might occur as a problem in this deal. Robin van Persie currently earn £240,000-a-week. The Turkish side are now looking forward replacement of Demba ba who joined Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua this season.
It will be interesting to see if Robin van Persie actually leaves before his contract runs out with the Red Devils. The Dutch forward still has the potential of being a game-changer. If he is fit enough to play he will prove to be a great asset to any team. Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wil have to take a wise decision regarding his compatriot’s departure from the club.
