Manchester Unite were dealt a blow few days earlier after it was revealed that club captain Wayne Rooney was ruled out for a period of six weeks after picking up a knee injury.
However things only got worse for the Red Devil squad and supporters as news now broke out that star shot-stopper David de Gea has picked up an injury and has not taken part in the trip to Midtjylland for the Europa league encounter on Thursday.
The Spanish keeper has now added his name to a long list of injuries at the club with as many as 12 players already missing at the weekend.
De Gea made the trip to Denmark and was initially named in the starting XI to face the Danish side but de Gea picked up an injury just 10 minutes before kick off and was replaced by Sergio Romero in the starting XI.
Romero’s last game for United was against Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup in October.
Though the extent of the injury and the amount of time he will have to spend on the medical table is still unclear, Van Gaal will be confirming more details in the post match press conference.
As a result of De Gea’s injury, the team was changed at late notice and incidentally did not include a back-up goalkeeper on the bench.
The 25 year old has made 31 appearances for his club this season and has won them a number of points in front of the posts.
He has been one of the most impressive players in a lack-luster season and missing him will be a big blow for the Manchester outfit.
He is linked with a move away from the club in the summer and if he is not able to find full fitness until late into the season, his move away from the club will be closer than ever.
Do you think United will miss David de Gea?
