Manchester City have submitted their provisional squad for the knock out rounds of the Champions League and early signs are that Edin Dzeko will get the chop after the arrival of Wilfied Bony.
Manchester City have submitted their squad to UEFA on Tuesday night. UEFA are yet to put it out for public eyes, early speculations are that Edin Dzeko has been sacrificed to make way for Wilfried Bony to meet UEFA’s regulations of fielding a limited number of International Players.
Manchester City were allowed to feature 17 non-homegrown players in the Premier League but due to the Financial Fair play punishment City can only field 16 non-homegrown players in the Champions League which they did earlier in the season but with Bony’s arrival things have changed now.
Apart from Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic, Aleksandar Kolarov and Willy Caballero are under threat of losing their Champions League spot with Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini will have a decision to make as to which 3 strikers will he take in to the knockout rounds of the Champions league or he can go do without and extra defender or a goal keeper.
On form and stats Jovetic seems to be the one who will get the chop as he has is yet to score an European Goal for city and has only started 18 games in his injury-hit 19 months stay at City. Even then it is widely rumoured that Edin Dzeko might get the chop ahead of Jovetic in City’s list of 16 foreigners in Champions League squad.
Manchester City’s 17 foreigners are:
Willy Caballero, Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis, Eliaquim Mangala, Aleksandar Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Jesus Navas, Samir Nasri, David Silva, Stevan Jovetic, Edin Dzeko, Wilfried Bony, Sergio Aguero.
