The 1-0 victory at Britannia earlier this week gave Liverpool supporters as much pain as joy after three of the players picked up a hamstring injury.
Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho are already out with injuries while Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure in the dying minutes fell pray to the hectic schedule of the Premier League. These injuries have left the club and Jurgen Klopp helpless at the back and with more fixtures coming thick and fast, it is understood that the German manager is looking for a temporary option at the back.
With a trip to Exter coming up on Friday, Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing in Neven Subotic from Borussia Dortmund. Subotic is an experienced defender who was a part of the Dortmund side that defeated the odds a few years ago under Jurgen Klopp.
He is now not a regular member of the starting XI at the German club and is keen on a move away from the club. And with the history between Klopp and Subotic, he is expected to arrive at Anfield even before the FA Cup tie.
The Daily Mirror reported that Klopp is in advanced talks with the player and his representatives but it is understood that the negotiations are stuck at the moment.
A possible loan deal for the player is, however, possible and it is likely that he will be at Liverpool in time for the crucial matches against Arsenal and Manchester United next week.
Liverpool are also in discussion with Inter Milan over the signing of Andrea Ranocchia even as Tiago Ilori’s loan stint ended at the Villa Park abruptly.
Klopp will have to dive into the transfer market and get deals done quickly and with no fit centre half for the game against Exter, a deal for Subotic should be stuck as quickly as possible.
