Arsenal defender Calum Chambers is set to join Middlesborough on a season-long deal, according to Daily Mail.

The 21-year old has started for Arsenal in the season opener against Liverpool but the poor outing meant he is restricted to the bench after that game. This has also led Arsene Wenger to force an early comeback for French defender Laurent Koscielny.

The arrival of Shkodran Mustafi meant he could be limited to bench most of the time and his playing time could be seriously affected if he stays at the club. Meanwhile, new signing Rob Holding have impressed in the recent matches which means he has fallen down the pecking order at the club.

Chambers have signed from Southampton two seasons ago and Wenger believes that the young defender could still succeed at the club as he is willing to let him leave on loan.

He has started in just 20 league games since his arrival at the club and a move to Middlesborough meant he could get much needed playing time which is crucial for his development.

Boro are keen on the defender as they have been chasing Arsenal to sign him for the past few weeks. Chambers should benefit from working with manager Aitor Karanka as he can be very versatile. Chambers can play as a central defender, right back and can also operate as a defensive midfielder.
