Arsenal FC left-back Nachor Monreal is all set to return to La Liga and join Athletic Bilbao this summer on a three year deal, according to AS report. The Spanish full back who had joined the club from Malaga in 2013 has spent two seasons at Emirates. The Spaniard will sign a three year contract which will keep him at bilbao untill 2018/19 season with the option of another year.

Even though Arsenal are yet to confirm the player’s departure, the Spanish media speculates that the move is on the cards and will be dome in the coming few days. It is believed that Nacho Monreal himself wanted to re-sign a fresh 2 years contract, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is not ready to extend the 29-year-old’s stay at the club.

Monreal is currently with Gunners squad which has travelled to Singapore for pre-season. Reportedly he will be sold for around €10 million to Athletic Bilbao.

Arsenal have apparently decided Monreal’s successor at Emirates. Faouzi Ghoulam, Napoli’s Algerian left-back might replace the Spaniard at the club. Ghouzi had an impressive stint in Serie A last season and played several matches. The 24-year-old is tipped to be the next first choice left-back at the club.

Nacho Monreal too have done a commnedable job for Arsenal in the last two seasons. He played a vital role at their defense and won two back to back FA Cups.

A comparison between Monreal and Ghoulam’s last season’s performance is given below:

The stats though suggest that Monreal had a better season compared to Faouzi Ghoulam, but Wenger must have taken the players’ age into consideration. Signing the Napoli player would lend them 4 to 5 years of service. Monreal is already 29 so Wenger must have been sceptical with his age performance in the coming years.
