India might be languishing in the range of 160 rankings in the football World, but an astonishing move saw former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana, Mr. Mukul Mudgal being named as the Deputy Chairman of the Governance Committee, confirms TenSports. A Harvard-educated Governance expert, Luis Miguel Maduro, the Portuguese will assume the responsibility of being the committee’s Chairman. Both of these Governance experts will be the head of the International Review committee of FIFA too, which reviews all major decisions of FIFA.
A well-known law practitioner in India, Mukul Mudgal was a Hindu College alumnus. After beginning his career as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India, Mukul went onto become the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Mudgal is also renowned for being the head of the “Mudgal Committee”, which investigated the Match Fixing allegations in Indian cricket before. It was none but his Inquiry committee report that revealed the bitter truth of cricket to the whole world and stunned every cricket lover. In another major sporting appointment where Mudgal has been recently involved in, he oversaw proceedings between the Delhi Cricket Association and local authorities in hosting a World Cup game in New Delhi. AFC also roped Justice Mudgal in a similar capacity.
The appointment of Mukul Mudgal will surely benefit in resolving the issues of the controversy-plagued FIFA. The Governance committee and FIFA President Infantino will work altogether and will do anything to complete their major initiative of cleaning up FIFA with major reforms and a strong governance.
