Breaking: Frank Lampard Returning To Chelsea In January

Frank Lampard will leave New York City next month having been a key player in the MLS club’s early history.

The 38-year-old scored NYCFC’s first-ever hat-trick against the Colorado Rapids in July, helping the club to make the play-offs for the first time, but it is at Chelsea where the former England midfielder’s legendary status truly lies.

With 211 Chelsea goals to his name, Lampard is the Blues’ all-time top scorer and helped the club to secure their first Premier League title – back in 2005.

And the midfield legend went on to help Chelsea secure a further two league titles, on top of a Champions League and Europa League crown, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Community Shield twice.

But with his long-term future now uncertain, and yet unknown whether he will hang up his boots for good, Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer the club legend the option of three different roles at the Bridge, as per the Mirror.

Lampard revealed last month that he would be interested in moving into coaching, and that is one of the three positions the club are willing to offer the midfielder, who has also been handed the chance to take on an ambassadorial or mentoring role.

The Blues are keen to snap up the services of Lampard, to avoid the former England international taking on alternative non-playing roles elsewhere – although the 38-year-old is yet to confirm he is officially retiring, with an announcement due imminently.

Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry are just three of a number of ex-pros who have expressed their frustration at being overlooked by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, in the past – despite enjoying incredible playing careers at the north London club.

However, Chelsea are taking an alternative approach and want to embrace the experience that Lampard boasts in order for him to work with the club and new boss Antonio Conte, into making sure the Blues are consistently competing for the title and in European competition.

Like with Steven Gerrard at LA Galaxy, English football fans are eagerly anticipating what the former England stars’ moves will be and whether they will grace the football pitch again.
