The drama finally ends! It’s all over for Arsenal. No more Higuain dream. According to a report from SkySportItalia, Gonzalo Higuain has already undergone a Juventus medical and they will pay Napoli the €94m clause.
On Friday there were reports from Italian media that Higuain is ready to accept offers from Arsenal this summer.
Napoli’s president even gave the Gunners green signal to make an offer for Higuain as the 29-year-old Argentine looks most likely to move away from the Stadio San Paolo.
But now reports claim he already had his medical in Madrid yesterday.
There are even photographs online of Higuain’s blood tests, taken at La Moraleja hospital in Madrid. The Argentine striker put pen to paper on a contract until June 2020. The wages on offer are believed to be €7.5m per year, shattering their current salary cap.
As he’d be given back his image rights, the wage would essentially rise to €10m.
Juventus are expected to inform Napoli over the next couple of days that they intend to pay the full €94.7m release clause over a two-year period.
It’s believed that Higuain has always seen Juventus as the most appealing option this summer, but Paris Saint-Germain were also in the race to sign the former Real Madrid attacker along with Arsenal.
However, Napoli’s reluctance in selling their prized asset to a direct Serie A rival like Juventus was believed to encourage Arsene Wenger in landing the star.
While Gooners are crying out for Wenger to bring in attacking reinforcements, Higuain’s £78million release clause may have proved too much for the Frenchman.
The Argentinean previously came close to joining Arsenal in 2013, although the Gunners baulked at Real Madrid’s £35million asking price and he joined Napoli instead. Since then, Higuain has gone on to break several Serie A records.
