Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has ruled out a reunion with former boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The Gabonese forward, who is on international duty at the Africun Cup of Nations, has been frequently linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club.
Aubameyang has said he is happy playing at Dortmund but suggested he would be willing to leave for the right club.
“Nobody can foresee the future,” the 27-year-old told German newspaper Bild. “I love it at Dortmund, but I can’t say that I’ll stay for two more years, or five or 10.
“It’s possible that a club could reach an agreement with Dortmund in June, and I’ll go.”
Aubameyang dismissed Anfield as a possible destination when he does leave the German club. “I don’t think that’ll happen,” he said when asked about signing with Klopp.
Klopp won the Bundesliga twice with Dortmund before succeeding Brendan Rodgers as manager of Liverpool in 2015.
So, where would the Dortmund striker go if he decides to leave? Will he join Bayern? Probably not, he has already ruled out a possible switch, saying he’d never hurt the fans. He left AS Saint-Etienne without any bad vibes, and will do so again at Dortmund.
Moreover, with Robert Lewandowski’s recent contract extension at Bayern, there is just no place for him in the current set-up.
Ever since the Poland international’s departure from Dortmund, Aubameyang has matured from a fleet-footed winger into a scoring machine inside the box.
These days, Bayern play with one central attacker and two wingers. And the only thing that could lure the Bundesliga powerhouse into making an offer would be the idea of weakening their opponents.
There is really no need for that, and Dortmund would be reluctant to sell were the Bavarian’s hierarchy to present an offer anyway.
