Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the expected arrival of Senegalese international Sadio Mane was delayed as the exciting winger is yet to land in United Kingdom after participating in the African Cup of Nations earlier this month.
The Reds are keen to play Mane against the high profile game against Chelsea as the game could decide Liverpool’s chances of their league title race as a win at Anfield would see Liverpool close the gap down to seven points after the game.
Liverpool have more worries than the title race at the moment as the club have lost three games in a row and have crashed out of FA Cup and EFL Cup during the same period. Jurgen Klopp would be hoping to change the fortunes around quickly as the team cannot afford further slip ups which could seriously impact their league campaign.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Klopp said: “I don’t know exactly [if he will be involved].
“He’s now on his way, we thought it would be possible yesterday. We had a plane there yesterday, but he wasn’t allowed. He had to wait.
“Now it’s all good, he will be here this night at some point. I spoke to him, it’s all good so far. He’ll be in tomorrow morning, I have no idea.
“I have to look in his eyes, then make a decision.”
Liverpool are currently playing only in the Premier League and the Reds would be hoping to cash in on the opportunity as they will remain fresh and hungry for success in the Premier League over the coming weeks.
A win is a must for Klopp’s men not only to stay in contention for the league title but also to retain the confidence they have had till December.
