Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers have been hit with yet another defensive setback after it was earlier revealed today that Mamadou Sakho has been ruled out for 3-4 weeks due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Wednesday’s FA cup win over Blackburn and will not play any part in Liverpool’s away trip to Newcastle later tonight.
Liverpool are already without Martin Skrtel for their away trip to Newcastle later tonight after his red card offense against Manchester United 2 weeks back. In Skrtel’s absence, Sakho was expected to take over from Skrtel as the leader of Liverpool’s defense but unfortunately the Frenchman will miss about 3-4 weeks of football.
Liverpool paid heavy price for Skrtel’s absence in their game against Arsenal where Rodgers had to change to a 4-men defense and it backfired for the reds as the Gunners hammered Liverpool to a 4-1 win.
Sakho’s injury has left Rodgers with very little option at the back and it is widely expected that Rodgers will once again go for a 4-men defense with Kolo Toure and Emre Can operating at central defense and Alberto Moreno at Left Back while Glenn Johnson will play a rare game for the reds at right-back.
Liverpool are a team struggling for form and result at the moment. Two back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Arsenal have put a huge question mark over their ambitions of finishing in the top4 this season.
Liverpool(54 points) are now 7 points behind the 4th placed side Manchester City and with just 6 games to go in the season, Brendan Rodgers is in line to suffer yet another mediocre season with the club.
