Manchester United have edged close to signing Nicolas Gaitan. United have been given a go-ahead signal by Benfica after Portuguese club signed Mehdi Carcela as Gaitan’s replacement.
It has been talked for weeks now that United have agreed a deal to bring the gifted Argentine at Old Trafford. Perhaps, Benfica have already started to prepare for a life without Gaitan by signing Carcela from standard Liege.
Carcela has joined Benfica on a four-year deal. Earlier in the week, Benfica also complete the signing of former QPR midfield Adel Tarrabt on a five-year deal.
Following his signing, Carcela was upbeat and expressed his delight on signing for the historic and prestigeous club. Carcela said: ‘I know that Benfica are one of the biggest clubs, known in the four corners of the world,’
It’s a mythical club with a great history and I can only be honoured to play for Benfica.’
Manchester United have taken a step closer to Gaitan’s signature as both Carcela and Tarrabt are equipped to play in the same role as Gaitan does. Gaitan is an exciting and talent winger who could add real attacking threat to United’s play.
Earlier today, Manchester United unveiled Memphis Depay as their first official signing of the season. If things work out in the manner we see it, Gaitan could be the next joining the Old Trafford club.
