Former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has reportedly landed his first management job with his childhood club. Gerrard bid adieu to the game last month after his contract with MLS outfit LA Galaxy expired. There were rumours that the Reds legend might join any club as a player. He was linked with a move to Serie A giants AC Milan and Scottish outfit Celtic but he was looking determined for the coaching role. The Reds legend was also offered a coaching role by League One side MK Dons.
However, the Daily Mirror has reported that the former England international has ended all the speculations surrounding his future and has taken up a coaching role at the club’s Academy set-up.
Gerrard was in constant touch with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and according to reports the German tactician had advised the former midfielder to take up a low-key job rather than jumping straight away into the first-team coaching role. The report claimed that both Klopp and the club see Gerrard as a future Liverpool manager and helping the club to bring through rising youngsters is seen as the first step towards that endeavour.
The news outlet revealed that the Liverpool boss’ constant backing played a vital role in helping Gerrard sort out his future. A couple of months ago, Klopp had said:“Steven Gerrard is always so welcome at Liverpool FC,
“You cannot imagine how welcome. So, absolutely no problem. But everything that we have already or will speak to each other stays in this talk.”
Klopp’s contract with the Reds expires in 2022 and Gerrard is seen as potential replacement for him.
