Jose Mourinho and Manchester United will not be happy with their performance at the weekend against West Ham which has left them reeling 11 points off the top of the table, 13 games into the new season.
However, they managed to fight back this week in take 2 of the same encounter this time in the League Cup. The Red Devils managed to jump into the semi-final of the League Cup, setting up a tie with Hull City, with a thumping 4-1 victory over the Hammers on Wednesday.
The manager will be happy with the comeback but will not really be happy with his team’s performances in the domestic competition. He will surely look to shake things up in January and will try to spend big money to get quality players into the squad.
Mourinho is also not too pleased with the performances of his star players and might let a few leave in January. One such player who is on the brink of an exit from Old Trafford is Marcos Rojo.
The Argentine defender moved to the club more than 2 years ago but has never been able to cement a place in the starting XI at the club. At 26, he is an experienced player who is supposed to take the responsibilities of the side but Rojo has just not been able to adjust to the life at Old Trafford.
The fact that he has been more impressive as a center half, in the wake of injuries to key players, shows that Rojo is not in the best form at the moment and it might be the right decision for Mourinho to let him go.
But his experience and CV are sure to attract interests from around Europe and Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are the first team to register their interest in the defender.
The report also suggest that Manchester United are ready to part ways with the player for a fee around £16m, the exact amount at which he moved to the Old Trafford a few years ago.
Bayer Leverkusen, who has already secured a top class player in Javier Hernandez from Manchester United are extensively linked with a move for Rojo.
The Argentine is slowly working his way back into Mourinho plans, after the injuries to Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling but Mourinho will know that he will need a player who can cement their place at the back and should not really hesitate to sell Rojo if he is ready to splash the cash in January.
But if Mourinho is unable to get a decent replacement, letting Rojo, who is just adjusting to the team, leave, might be suicidal.
Do you think Mourinho should let Marcos Rojo leave the club in January?
