Fernando Torres responsed to Jose Mourinho’s crticism that his strikers have forgotten how to score, by hitting the back of the net, from what looked like a precarious angle. The Spaniard scored early in Turkey to give 2012 winners Chelsea an early lead, but Mourinho will be left pondering on what might have been. Torres who now has five goals, in equal number of matches in Europe should have put the game to bed in the second half, when it looked easier to score rather than miss from a glorious position.

The Blues will be left ruing over their missed chances as Glatasaray hit back with their own. Aurelien Chedjou then fired home in the second half to grab a share of the spoils from the first leg and Galatsaray will now travel to stamford Bridge knowing one goal in London could change the tie on its head. Roberto Mancini’s men will however feel aggrieved  that they didn’t get another goal despite finishing the game on the stronger side and nullifying Chelsea’s attacking threat for most of the second half. The tie might not be on a knife edge for Chelsea, but they do look vulnerable at the back apart from cesare Azpilicueta, the Spaniard who yet again had a brilliant game under his belt. Chelsea might be the favourites to qualify for he quarters, but then again a certain Didier Drogba knows how to find the back of the net at Stamford Bridge.

Real annihilate Schalke by 6-1: A dominating and crushing performance from Real Madrid saw the Los Blancos put  Schalke tobed by 6-1 in a match that was only one wat traffic. Going into this tie, the Giants from Madrid, had an unsusal and yet poor sstatisctic against them, the Bernebeu side had failed to win in their last twenty travels to German sides. However, Carlo ancelotti’s men not only shattered the records, Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo all of the three scored braces in what was an absolue demolition. Schalke got their cnsolation thanks to Huntelaar’s wonder strike, but it was a bit too late. Real now take a more than healty lead back to Bernebeu and not even the mot earnest of Schalke supporter would be betting on his team to qualify.

Elswwhere in Russia, last year’s finalists and German side Borussia Dortmund brushed aside Zenit St Petersburg by 4-2 and have one foot in the quarters. Henrikh Mkhyitaryan and Marco Reus opened the floodgate early on as Robert Lewandowski than scored a brace to dash Zenit’s further hopes of revival.
