Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva has caught the eye of many a clubs with his performances over at the principality club and has been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona at the tender age of 21. It seems that both the clubs might go head to head in a heated bidding war for the talented Portuguese midfielder over the upcoming transfer window.
AS Monaco have been in financial trouble over the last couple of seasons and have been trying to offload players to generate income for their financial stability. High profile exits include that of Falcao, James Rodrigues, Anthony Martial, Kurzawa and Carrasco over just the last couple of seasons. Replacements have not been adequate and hence we can see the club currently struggling especially in the Europa league where they failed to progress from the group stage.
The club has set Silva’s price at a reported 22 million pounds and have sounded out both his potential destinations over the possibility of letting him leave. Barcelona were seemingly leading the charge but recent reports suggest that Chelsea have amped up their efforts and are now the most likely destination for the talented midfielder. Over the course of summer, Arsenal and Manchester United did send their scouts but they have dropped the idea for now.
A likely reason for such efforts might be the fact that Mourinho is unhappy with his team and the owner is looking to help out the manager in such a scenario by loosening his purse strings and letting him recover over the season. Both Hazard and Oscar have been struggling in the no 10 role for Chelsea and Silva can possibly fill that void for Chelsea and hence it might be a more attractive destination than Barcelona who already have a plethora of midfielders. A lot of bench time might not be suitable for Silva at his tender age.
