Chelsea Cooling Down Dimitri Payet Interest, But Ready To Bid For Another West Ham Star

Although Chelsea are seemingly marching towards the title, it’s looking increasingly likely they will look to bring in reinforcements this month.
The Blues have been linked with Javier Hernandez, Virgil van Dijk and Ricardo Rodriguez, among countless others. The name of West Ham’s Michail Antonio can now be added to the list as Antonio Conte reportedly looks to add some further options to his squad.
The Sun are claiming the Italian tactician is set to bid for the Londoner in the coming days after Antonio’s impressive form this season. He’s played in several roles for Slaven Bilic’s side this season and is comfortably their top scorer this term with eight.
Once handed his chance, Antonio’s physical attributes saw him acclimatise to the Premier League very quickly. The former Forest man’s versatility is also key to his pitch time and strengthens the likelihood of starts even if Bilic switches to a three-man backline.
With just two headed goals this season, Chelsea are certainly lacking a certain aerial prowess. Antonio has consistently proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with in the air, scoring a record number of headers since the start of last season.
Conte told the press earlier today he was considering investing this month, as quoted by the BBC.
“There are some positions that, if we are able to find the right solution, it is important to take that solution.
“This championship is long. Also, I know the difficulty of the market and finding the right player. But we are talking about this.”
The former Forest player’s versatility could certainly appeal to the boss in that regard.
