La Liga club Espanyol have been interested in a couple of underused players amongst the Chelsea ranks over the winter window and are mooting a loan deal for them as they try to take advantage of the Chelsea talent factory with a raid on Christian Atsu along with the surprise signing, Papy Djilobodji.
Espanyol have forever been in the shadows of the big boys in the city, FC Barcelona, and are looking for upgrades in certain positions as they look to shed the ‘strugglers’ tag and climb up the table. The players which have interested the La Liga outfit are Atsu and Papy as they both seemingly have no future at Chelsea after being driven away on loans in the case of Atsu, and being relegated to the reserves, in the case of Djilobodji.
With the two players also keen on a move, it seems like a matter of time before Chelsea offload the two rejects onto the Spanish League for good as they currently command wages over 80,000 pounds for them combined.
Atsu is just coming off a disappointing spell with the Premier League newcomers, AFC Bournemouth, who have seen the Ghanaian international consistently spend time on the sidelines with injury after another. It was not too long ago that the tricky winger had been shattering defences back in the Iberian Peninsula’s other big league, the Portuguese top division. He was nominated in the first shortlist for Ballon d’Or last year due to his performances with Ghana.
Papy, meanwhile was a panic buy and has accrued just over 4 minutes under his belt for Chelsea over the season so far. He is a definite departure for the Blues after having his role defined to him by the Chelsea management.
