After an uninspiring 15-16 season that is almost over for Chelsea, they are already planning ahead for the next season with a number of players linked to the club for a move this summer.
The most recent player to be linked with the Stamford Bridge outfit is Barcelona defensive midfield player Sergio Busquets.
The Spanish international who made his debut for Barcelona in 2008 has made 365 appearances for the club on his route to growing in stature as one of the best players in his position.
However, recent reports suggested that the midfielder is pondering about a move to the Premier League after the end of the season.
And now Spanish paper, Mundo dePortiva reported that Chelsea are keen on bringing the versatile midfielder to London after the end of the season.
However, Chelsea will be in a race with Manchester City to sign the 27-year old after he showed his admiration to Pep Guardiola and said the he is pondering over a move to Manchester City when the Spanish manager takes over the club net season.
“I have always said there are just two persons who could make me change my decision to stay at Barcelona,” He told ESPN.
“One of those two persons is my wife. And she is happy here right now, so I don’t think there will be any issues on a personal level.
“On a sporting level, that other person is Guardiola. It’s clear that I owe Pep a lot and I would be honored to work with him again.”
But it seems very unlikely that Busquets will leave the Barcelona team with his best years of his career in front of him and with the form in which the Catalan giants are at the moment.
Barcelona are well on their way to the La Liga title this season while Copa del Rey is also within reach. Champions League is still way away but the hopes of a consecutive treble are seriously on and it hard to imagine a player as important as Busquets leaving the team right after such a season.
It will be interesting to see how this story pans out in the summer transfer window after the end of this season.
