Chelsea look to beat Spurs to sign out of favour EPL striker

Chelsea are looking to pip their North London rivals,Tottenham Hotspur, to the to signing of out-of-favour West Brom striker Saido Berahino. Berahino is a prime target for Pochettino and Spurs who made several unsuccessful bids to the sign the maligned Englishman in the summer. Berahino himself was desperate for a move to North London and handed in a transfer request which subsequently led to his omission from the Baggies starting line-up and manager Tony Pulis has gone on to say that he is “lucky to be on the bench.”

Berahino was in a rich vein of form last season as he scored 20 goals for the Baggies. He was also adjudged the club’s “Player’s Player of the Year” award. His solid displays for West Brom attracted the interested of a lot of clubs with Spurs being the front runners. But now, The Daily Express reports that Chelsea are looking to beat their rivals Spurs to his signature.

The report says that manager Guus Hiddink is very keen on bringing a striker to Chelsea this month as Diego Costa remains his only fit centre-forward. Loic Remy has only just returned from an injury while Radamel Falcao is still a few weeks away.

Hiddink said that Remy, a January target for Galatasaray, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, would be going nowhere this month: “We have a multitude of games so I hope Remy picks it up. I hope he will deliver if he is needed.

“We are short of options. I hope they will both stay fit. I would be concerned if either picked up another injury.

“We are thinking about the situation. We have to have good competition, double occupation in every position.

“We must not go into the dangerous situation when something happens with one of the two strikers.”

Meanwhile Spurs are also very keen on the striker and recent reports have also suggested that Berahino would reject all other offers to complete his dream move to Tottenham. However, it wouldn’t be too easy for Berahino to reject the advances of current Premier League champions
