Jose Mourinho has underlined the importance of signing a world-class holding midfielder next season to reduce the burden on Nemanja Matic of carrying Chelsea’s midfield. Chelsea have looked fragile without Matic in their side and thus Mourinho wants to sign Barcelona’s Alex Song for a mere £10 million next season.
Song is currently on loan at West Ham and is widely expected to leave Barcelona next summer as the Catalan side look to cash in on their midfield star. Song has impressed everyone in the Premier League with his stellar performances and Mourinho seems to have taken good note of his displays.
Mourinho wants to sign Alex Song and partner him with Matic in midfield to allow Cesc Fabregas play further up field to support the likes of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa. Fabregas has suffered a dip in form playing as the hold field player in the second half of the season, whereas the Spaniard had 15 assists in the first half this season.
Another reason of signing Alex Song is the slump in form for Oscar. The Brazilian has looked a shadow of his old self and has failed to impact the games in recent times. By allowing Fabregas to play the #10 role, Mourinho could end Oscar’s spell at Chelsea.
Barcelona are willing to sell and Chelsea want to buy Alex Song, this transfer looks all but settled for now. With a £10 million price tag, the signing would be yet another major bargain coup for Jose Mourinho in his second spell at Chelsea.
